This morning the world is waking up to the worst mid-term election hangover on record. In spite of losing key races across the country, Democrats have emerged as the clear victor, now in control of the House. While the Senate remains strongly Republican, the bigger victory is that of morality over vitriol. Trump continued to stoke that fire of hatred and racism, branding refugees as an invading army and illegals as locusts poised to lay waste to United States. This morning, the hateful caravan of Trump’s lies has abated. He now must face a stronger more apt opponent than helpless refugees—he must face a House hell-bent on the demise of his political agenda.
With Democratic control of the House comes oversight of the administration itself, subpoena power, checks and balances that may result in the forced release of Mr. Trump’s elusive tax returns. The Democrats are perfectly poised to investigate and embarrass the current administration in hopes of yielding at very least moral victories that may sway voters, as it may have done last night.
It’s a midterm election hangover on a level the country has never seen. But soon Trump will wake, and the world will have to contend with the orange “hair of the dog” that bit us, and will again.
